Overview
This Graphic Designer I position works under the direction of the University Marketing and Communications Office (UMAC) Art Director and is responsible for creating and designing branded marketing materials including digital and print advertising, websites, and projects as assigned. The Graphic Designer needs to have a basic understanding of visual communication principles and of marketing and advertising.
Telework Per Utah State University Policy 3008, telework is a possibility for this position after the completion of a six‑month review period.
Responsibilities
Conceptualizing, designing, and producing print, digital, and multimedia projects consistent with Utah State’s brand standards and mission.
Communicating and working with marketing managers to identify clients’ needs and engage in decision‑making processes to implement proper creative and design strategies for projects.
Participating in developing creative strategy for marketing campaigns through brainstorming, meetings, conceptual mockups, vision boards, and other resources based on a project's needs.
Working with others on the design and marketing team to ensure all production materials are properly prepared for the vendor(s).
Using best practices with file management and organization in workflow management software and file storage archive database.
Managing and completing assigned projects with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines.
Coordinating design and marketing creative award competition entries.
Keeping up on current industry design standards, trends and professional development while supporting and developing the design team’s collective skillsets.
Accepting other general design responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Position requires a flexible work schedule for occasional projects that may go beyond traditional work hours as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have a knowledge of and experience with visual design theories, including the principles and elements of design, print and digital layout best practices, color theory, and typography.
Must be current and skilled in the utilization of Adobe Creative Cloud with an emphasis on InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Must possess a basic understanding of printing and pre‑press requirements for preparing artwork for production.
Must be detail‑oriented and have excellent design and communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
