SNAP Specialist (fluent in English and Russian) Location:

Overview A nonprofit social services organization dedicated to supporting underserved communities across New York City is seeking a fluent English and Russian speaking,

SNAP Specialist

to join its Benefits Access team.

This role focuses on helping individuals and families access the

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

by conducting outreach, educating community members, and assisting with the application and enrollment process.

The position is currently

hybrid , with time split between offices in

Forest Hills, Queens, and the Financial District in Manhattan , as well as occasional travel to community partner locations across NYC.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct outreach to community organizations, food programs, and partner agencies to provide education on SNAP eligibility and services

Educate individuals and families about SNAP and other available public benefits

Screen and assess potential applicants for SNAP eligibility

Assist clients with SNAP applications using online platforms such as

Access HRA

Provide guidance on required documentation and eligibility requirements

Support clients through the application process and assist with case follow-ups when necessary

Assist SNAP participants with

recertifications, case updates, and periodic reporting requirements

Advocate for clients in disputed or complex cases

Participate in community outreach events, fairs, and informational sessions

Connect clients with additional benefits and resources, including:

Free tax preparation services

Health insurance programs

HEAP

NYC Care

WIC

Maintain accurate documentation of services in

Salesforce and other internal tracking systems

Collaborate with staff across departments and partner organizations

Perform additional duties as needed

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent customer service and client support abilities

Strong attention to detail when handling applications and documentation

Comfort using online systems, databases, and web-based applications

Ability to educate groups and conduct presentations

Ability to help clients navigate barriers while adhering to local, state, and federal guidelines

Strong organizational and data entry skills

Qualifications

High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Fluency in Russian and English required

Background in

Public Health, Public Administration, Human Services, or a related field preferred

Experience working with

low-income or immigrant communities preferred

Knowledge of government benefits programs is a plus
