QUALIFICATIONS

Masters Degree

200 level of Special Education endorsement

Good physical condition with ability to lift 10 pounds

REPORTS TO Assistant Superintendent of Academics- Curriculum and Instruction

JOB GOAL To direct, administer, and supervise the Special Education Program, the Gifted Program, and Section 504/ADA compliance, as well as the homebound program in accord with local, state, and federal guidelines, within available resources to effectively serve the needs of students with identified exceptionalities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates referrals, evaluation, and placement of all students referred for evaluation and placement in special education, all to meet the federal and state mandated timelines.

Maintains individual confidential files to include due process information, eligibility, and other pertinent data for all students referred for evaluation and all students placed in special education.

Maintains accurate class records and other data and provides required reports to federal, state, and local agencies.

Coordinates professional development activities for all staff members relating to special education and provision of services to students with disabilities.

Coordinates professional development activities for all staff members relating to gifted programming and provision of services.

Coordinates the provision of homebound services to students who require such educational support services.

Applies for federal and state funds and for reimbursement of expenditures from Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Preschool Grant, Educable Child Funds, and extended school year.

Develops district policies and procedures for special education based on guidelines from federal, state, and local education agencies.

Develops district policies and procedures for gifted programming based on guidelines from state and local education agencies.

Assists special education teachers in developing instructional objectives, Individual Education Plans, and related services to meet the provision of Least Restrictive Environment and Free Appropriate Public Education for all students with disabilities in district; monitoring program to ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines; keeping teachers informed of guidelines.

Keeps immediate supervisor informed of the special education program progress and events which may have an impact on the district.

Keeps immediate supervisor informed of the gifted program's progress and events which may have an impact on the district.

Develops effective working relationships with parents requesting placement of children in special education and parents of children being screened or ruled eligible for special services.

Visits special education classes to assist the building principal with supervising and evaluating special education classes and special education teacher performance.

Conducts publicity campaign during the school year to inform the public of the kinds of programs available for students with disabilities.

Serves as the district's liaison with the Office of Civil Rights and advocacy groups.

Develops, continually revises, and implements consistent procedures to identify and locate individuals who may meet eligibility categories of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Trains appointed site‑based 504 coordinators.

Assists general education by modifying, where necessary, the educational environment for IDEA, 504/ADA eligible students including the provision of related services (i.e., transportation, OT, PT, etc.) for eligible students.

Facilitates the maintenance of individual confidential files for all students eligible under Section 504.

Facilitates an Annual Review of all 504/ADA eligible students.

Facilitates manifestation determinations for eligible students being considered for exclusion/expulsion for infractions of local rules and regulations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 231 Days Certified/Exempt

SALARY Determined by degree and experience
