Job Title: Director of Music Ministry

The Director of Music Ministry will be primarily responsible for developing and facilitating a dynamic, authentic, inspiring, and comprehensive music ministry consistent with the overall mission of the family of ministries at Bethlehem. The Director of Music Ministry will implement, coordinate, and provide creative leadership in both traditional and contemporary worship contexts. The Director of Music Ministry will also serve as a bridge to the school ministry, inspiring students to engage in worship and music through chapel services and special programs. The core priorities of this role are:

1. The design and implementation of various worship opportunities and settings.
2. Oversight and development of various musical groups.
3. Oversight and expansion of worship arts and technical support (both in-person and virtual).
4. Musical leadership within the school ministry.

Responsibilities

• Select and plan music for both contemporary and traditional Sunday, midweek, and special services in coordination with the pastors.
• Play for, direct, and oversee the musical portions of the worship services at Bethlehem.
• Lead worship musically for weekly school chapel services.
• Provide musical leadership for school and church special events, specifically assisting with Christmas programs and other seasonal services.
• Assist in the music elective class for middle school students as needed.
• Commitment to identify, recruit, develop, and equip volunteer and professional musicians of all ages toward greater use of their gifts to glorify God.
• Propose an annual budget utilizing good stewardship practices while seeking creative ways to enhance the music ministry of Bethlehem.
• Encourage participation in the music ministry of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School for all ages.

Qualifications

Education: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in music or music education.

Experience: Ability to play a leading instrument such as a keyboard, piano, or organ is required. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are required. Experience in recruiting, planning, and conducting/leading choir and/or worship teams is preferred. Experience in developing and planning worship services is preferred. Experience with multi-generational music is preferred.

Personal: Must be a Christian by faith affirmation and be an active member of a Christian church; must be dedicated to the overall cooperative spirit of Bethlehem as a unified family of ministries; must be able to relate to both children and adults; must be a person of integrity, honest, dependable, resourceful, and organized; must be a good communicator; must enjoy children and show a commitment to the mission of Bethlehem Lutheran.

Accountability

The Director of Music Ministry shall be directly responsible to the pastor, with input from the principal as appropriate.

Compensation Information

Hours: This position will operate on a flexible 40-hour weekly schedule agreed upon with the Senior Pastor.
