Director of Sales As Director of Sales you would be responsible for negotiating and booking new/repeat business by networking, prospecting, and outside sales calls for the local market areas. The Director of Sales must be knowledgeable of industry trends, procedures and practices, while following Suburban Inns and franchise standards and expectations.

Essential Functions
Report to work in professional attire, presented neat and clean
Greet all guests in a friendly, positive manner. Ask questions of guests and make personal connections to make them feel they are welcome and valued
Anticipate and meet the needs and expectations of our guests, then go one step further
Develop, implement and monitor annual budget for the rooms/banquet departments, taking corrective action as necessary to help assure that financial goals are met
Grow year over year sales for all disciplines while staying within budget
Lead, manage, and hold the Sales Manager accountable to the standards of employment and job performance set by the core values of Suburban Inns
Serve as main point of contact for all Midland corporate accounts
Maintain positive relationships with all Midland corporate accounts
Perform sales calls via phone, site visits, networking, cold-calling, etc.
Identify prospective customers by using business directories, following leads from existing clients, participating in local organizations and clubs, and attending conferences
Negotiate corporate accounts and set up RFPs with assistance from the General Manager
Respond in a timely fashion to all leads; meeting, broker, local CVB’s, etc.
Book motor coach groups and maintain communication until the event is complete
Assist with sales of other outlets, such as meeting rooms, banquets, restaurants, etc.
Perform site tours at hotels and train new sales agents so they are knowledgeable in this process
Work with the Guest Service Manager to coach Guest Service Representatives on how to sell and gather leads
Follow up on goals and action plans weekly to ensure hotels are building loyalty and increasing market share, send out sales report to show results
Work with the Sales Manager to maintain knowledge of all banquet functions and details
Work with Sales Manager on wedding and sports group market
Attend IHG training classes when needed and do webinar classes on sales
Perform annual update of the hotel business plan
Read daily and weekly news outlets, sign up for google alerts and indeed.com to keep abreast of current events in the Tri-City Area of Michigan
Keep informed on franchise rewards programs to help with sales
Present potential direct bill accounts to hotel General Manager and Assistant General Manager for approval
Update day books, monthly sales budget spreadsheet, sale pro contacts, plus any other miscellaneous spreadsheets requested by management
Participate in local community organizations
Attend scheduled staff meetings
Follow all Suburban Inns processes
Exhibit regular and recurrent attendance records
Other duties as requested by management
Position Requirements
Minimum Knowledge:
Requires ability to interpret / extract information and / or perform arithmetic functions. May require typing, record keeping, or word processing. Great communication skills.
Formal Education and Job-Related Experience:
This position requires a minimum formal education of a high school degree or equivalent related experience. A minimum of 6 months doing outside sales, and 1 year of hotel job-related experience
License, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
Clean, valid driver’s license, reliable transportation to be used on sales calls
Uniform and Appearance Guidelines Uniform and Appearance Guidelines:
Uniform: Uniform shirt and name tag provided. Suburban Inns approved black slacks and black, close-toed, non-slip shoes are the responsibility of the Team Member.
Appearance: Hair must be kept well-groomed. All facial piercings and tattoos that are not covered by a work uniform must be approved by management. Any tattoo that is deemed offensive to co-workers, guests, vendors or others in the workplace based on racial, sexual, religious, ethnic, or other characteristics or attributes of a sensitive or legally protected nature are not permitted and must remain covered or concealed at all times. This policy will be administered by the position’s supervisor, without regard to race, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability, height, weight, genetics, familial status, veteran status, and other protected characteristics.
