Overview
Come be WBHM's next multimedia news producer to help elevate stories on our website and social media channels. You'll work with reporters to create compelling digital content. You'll also be the newsroom's primary voice on social media. There will be opportunities to report online and on air, particularly in breaking news situations. We're also interested to hear your ideas. What can you bring to the table to push WBHM's journalism forward and reach new audiences? The Gulf States Newsroom, a regional collaboration among stations in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana and NPR, is part of WBHM. Our reporters are also regularly on NPR News and other national programs and podcasts.
Responsibilities
To create and manage news content on WBHM's online and social media platforms. To create content that encourages audience engagement. To assist reporters in developing digital content that meets journalistic standards and makes full use of the platforms. To edit online stories for accuracy, style and presentation. To write digital news stories, especially in breaking news situations. To use digital analytics tools to gain a view of WBHM's digital audience. To keep abreast of best practices in the field and remain up-to-date on current trends and new technologies. To anticipate change and ensure the organization is positioned to succeed.
Creates and manages WBHM’s news content on social media.
Works with reporters to develop compelling digital content.
Edits web stories to ensure they are accurate, clear and follow editorial guidelines.
Reports news stories, particularly in breaking news situations.
Tracks performance of WBHM’s online content
Participate in station fundraising
Other duties as assigned
Salary Range
$45,395 - $63,000
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent communication and organizational skills and demonstrated writing ability
Familiarity with common social media platforms, tools and best practices for engagement
Familiarity with NPR’s Grove CMS
Knowledge of AP style
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Deep knowledge of Birmingham, Alabama and the South
