Service Writer Join Our Team at Ashland Garage!

Ashland Garage is seeking a motivated, customer-focused Service Writer to join our team in Ashland, VA. This is a full-time position ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, staying organized, and thriving in a fast-paced automotive environment.

As the primary point of contact for our customers, the Service Writer plays a key role in ensuring smooth daily operations, clear communication between customers and technicians, and an exceptional service experience from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls and assist customers with service inquiries
• Schedule and confirm appointments
• Create detailed work orders and communicate repair needs with technicians
• Provide repair estimates and obtain customer approvals
• Order parts and manage warranty/return processes
• Open and close the shop following established procedures
• Process payments and batch credit card transactions
• Maintain accurate customer records
• Generate basic daily, weekly, and monthly reports
• Follow up with customers to ensure satisfaction and build lasting relationships
• Support a positive, team-oriented work environment

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Automotive or service-related experience preferred (not required)
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities
• Ability to multitask in a busy shop environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Basic math skills for estimates and invoicing
• Positive attitude and strong problem-solving

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (parts/equipment as needed)
• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Comfortable working in a busy, open shop environment
• Exposure to noise and varying seasonal temperatures
