Department Overview The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences. Anticipated Hours Per Week 10 to 15 hours Schedule Anticipated Schedule Shifts will be Mon-Fri during regular office hours (8:30am - 4:30pm) Minimum Hour Expectation 10 - 15 hours per week during semester up to 30 hours per week during summer A minimum1 year commitment is required for this position Salary/Wage Range Hourly $15.25 to $15.25 Number Of Positions 2 Position Summary/Job Duties The Wisconsin Union is seeking creative, detail-oriented, and flexible students with experience in graphic design, including both hand-drawn and digital illustration, who are eager to collaborate and bring ideas to life. Create and produce artwork for print and digital materials, including brochures, posters, signage, flyers, ads, digital displays, webpages, email, social media graphics, and GIF animations. Collaborate on design projects supporting Wisconsin Union Theater, Directorate committees (film, art, music, lectures), Wheelhouse Studios, Membership, Dining Units, Outdoor UW (Hoofers), the Terrace, conferences, special events, and other Union initiatives. Qualifications Working knowledge of graphic design principles, including layout, hierarchy, composition, color theory, and visual storytelling Understanding of typography, font pairing, and accessible design practices Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud programs, including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop Ability to prepare files correctly for both print and digital production Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines Ability to accept feedback and revise work in a collaborative, client-focused environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Enthusiasm for graphic design, creativity, and contributing to a positive team culture *A minimum1 year commitment is required for this position Student Status To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment.
