Internship Overview The
Marketing Internship
offers hands‑on experience in hospitality marketing, digital content creation, social media strategy, and promotional event support. This is an opportunity for students to develop real‑world skills, build a portfolio, and work directly with restaurant leadership.
What the intern will gain:
Experience managing and creating content for restaurant social platforms
Training in brand strategy, hospitality marketing, and seasonal campaign planning
A completed end‑of‑summer marketing project to add to their portfolio
Exposure to restaurant operations and event promotion
One‑on‑one mentorship and professional development
Free meals while working on‑site
Projects & Learning Objectives The internship includes one main project along with smaller, ongoing tasks.
Major Project Example: “Summer Social Media Engagement Campaign” The intern will develop, execute, and analyze a campaign to promote seasonal menu features, special events, or guest engagement initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities:
Plan, draft, and schedule weekly social media content (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok)
Photograph and film food items, events, and behind‑the‑scenes content
Assist with designing marketing materials (flyers, table tents, digital ads)
Support marketing efforts during live events or promotions
Monitor engagement analytics and prepare simple performance reports
Brainstorm seasonal promotions with the management team
Light administrative or organizational tasks (no more than 20%)
Qualifications Ideal candidates will have:
Interest in marketing, communications, hospitality, or related fields
Knowledge of social media platforms and trends
Strong writing and design sense
Creativity and willingness to capture photo/video content
Ability to work independently
Positive attitude and comfort interacting with staff and customers
Experience through coursework, student clubs, or part‑time/volunteer roles
Tools & Workspace Provided On‑site workspace at the restaurant
Access to company marketing tools and social accounts
Use of design software (e.g., Canva)
Ability to use personal device for content creation if preferred
Weekly mentorship check‑ins
Supervision The intern will be supervised and mentored by the
Marketing Supervisor or General Manager
who will provide direction, feedback, and support throughout the internship.
Location On‑site at The Oar House Restaurant, Portsmouth, NH Some remote work (content drafting/scheduling) may be permitted, but the majority of hours will take place on location.

Desired Class Standing Juniors and seniors preferred
Motivated sophomores encouraged to apply
