What You Will Do

Individual Income Tax Audit Manager , you will lead and guide the Department’s domestic income tax audit program, provide direction to audit supervisors and staff, oversee complex audit and appeal matters, and ensure consistent application of South Carolina tax laws.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership, evaluate, and monitor domestic audit objectives with a focus on income tax and the duties of audit supervisors, including conducting audit case reviews Participate in decision making with senior management Provide instructions, guidance, and procedures on administrative and technical matters related to the operation of the section Review filed appeals in the domestic audit section and conduct appeal conferences with taxpayers and/or their representatives to determine the accuracy of the assessment Interpret complicated state tax laws and issues related to filed appeals Coordinate recruitment, hiring, personnel development, and retention of talent in accordance with agency needs

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, auditing, business administration, finance, or insurance and professional experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and/or analysis. Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.

Preferred Qualifications

An active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license Advanced degree in business, accounting, or taxation 4 or more years of experience in auditing or taxation 2 years of experience in auditing or taxation in a management capacity

Hours: Flexible hours may be available from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week). Telework: This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week after one year of employment with SCDOR. Office location: You may have the option to choose which SCDOR office you work in (Columbia, Charleston, Florence, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, Beaufort, or Rock Hill).
