What you will do: As a Tax Specialist in our Filing Enforcement Services area, you will ensure compliance with South Carolina and federal tax laws by analyzing and adjusting Income Tax returns in a fair, consistent, and accurate manner.
Primary job duties include:
Reviewing and auditing tax returns and making any adjustments needed to ensure taxpayer compliance with federal and state tax laws
Communicating with taxpayers to explain return adjustments
Staying up to date on tax law changes and on knowledge of our internal tax systems
Making recommendations to improve existing processes
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses (transcripts required. Attach to application or email employment@dor.sc.gov.)
Associate’s degree and experience in accounting, finance, insurance, or tax preparation/analysis
Relevant experience or education may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis with an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR).
Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Bachelor’s degree with multiple accounting hours
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation/analysis
Associate’s degree and three years of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation/analysis
Twelve semester hours in accounting, audit, or other business‑related subjects
Basic knowledge of SC tax laws and forms and online computer systems

This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week after one year of employment with SCDOR.
