
Events & Partnerships Intern The Greenway

The Greenway hosts 400+ free events and programs annually, including but not limited to the Lantern Festival, Films at the Gate, Boston Local Food Festival, and over 200 free fitness classes. Daily visitors enjoy the Greenway Carousel, distinctive food vendors, and two outdoor beverage gardens. The Conservancy’s programming approach is to host partner events, allowing us to work with a wide range of community groups and small businesses to bring hundreds of engaging and diverse events to the public.
Responsibilities
Provide support for the Greenway Conservancy and third-party events
Assist and communicate with programmatic partners through email, virtual meetings, in person walkthroughs, and on-site support at events.
Work closely with partners to ensure adherence to the Park Use Guidelines and assist the lead staff person with addressing concerns and documenting issues.
Staff, load in, and load out events as assigned, documenting notes through event reports.
Attend planning meetings with key partners and support event planning and logistics. Assist with scheduling, layouts, tracking program attendance, and contribute to the event debriefs and feedback processes.
Work outdoors, handle physical tasks, and act with professionalism and compassion toward everyone encountered.
Contribute to effective relationships with third-party vendors, organizations, cultural and community organizations, and Conservancy personnel.
Support the Outreach Department and contribute to content creation efforts including (but not limited to) capturing video, photo, and written content that enhances programs and event promotions Greenway Conservancy social media outlets.
Track and analyze data of Greenway revenue-generating programs such as the Carousel, food trucks, and beverage gardens.
Collaborate with co-interns to plan and execute Truck and Tractor Day, a Conservancy-produced event.
Lead and manage one or more Greenway events or event series such as movie nights, markets, play sessions and children’s programming, and after work/lunchtime activations.
Other duties as assigned related to the Conservancy’s mission or to support partners or stakeholders.
Skills and Qualifications
Entry level position for a person 18 years or older. 21+ preferred for events where alcohol is served, such as Gala on The Greenway.
Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive Conservancy vehicles in downtown Boston to move event supplies. Vehicle training will be provided. Accepted candidates will be required to have a motor vehicle background check.
Demonstrated skill in creative problem-solving, can-do attitude, and staying calm under pressure.
Strong written and oral communication skills. Bilingual skills are a plus, especially in Chinese languages given our programs in the Chinatown neighborhood.
Proficiency using social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook is helpful, but not required.
Computer proficiency, especially in Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail) and Microsoft (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Experience working in a diverse and inclusive organization is a plus.
Ability to work outside in all types of weather, kneel or stand for periods of time, and be able to lift 50 pounds, which are all needed for on-site events.
We strongly encourage all incoming employees to be COVID-19 vaccinated.
Logistics
This is a paid position with sick time and holiday benefits. Compensation will be $19.25/hour.
The position duration is ~15 weeks, beginning in May or early June and ending in late August or early September. We are looking for assistance up to 40 hours per week but may consider part-time schedules. There is a preference for the Events & Partnerships Intern position to continue event support during occasional nights and weekends through September 2026.
Work hours are generally Tuesday through Saturday, though weekly schedules will be set based on event needs. Evening and Sunday hours may be required and could lead to working both weekend days (with advanced notice). A day off within the same week will be provided in return for any additional work days.
Work will generally take place outdoors, and the position will require a significant amount of time in the parks in all weather conditions, including heat and rain. Indoor office time will also be part of the schedule. Some remote work may be possible on non-event days.
We will work with interns to receive college credit if applicable.
Greenway branded uniforms will be provided for outdoor work and event days, while indoor office attire is business casual.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a paid position with sick time benefits. Compensation will be $19.25/hour.
Three to four (3-4) paid holidays depending on start and end dates.
