POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Cook/Maintenance position is responsible for planning and preparing meals for campers ensuring food safety and health department regulations are followed, maintenance tasks around the campgrounds, including cleaning, repairs, and general upkeep of facilities. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Recognize and support the mission, policies and practices of the Catholic Church and Diocese of Boise. Ability to follow established diocesan and camp policies in all areas, including facility use, personnel, and work schedules. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal effectiveness at all levels and across cultures. Culinary skills for cooking large quantities of food. Basic knowledge of kitchen management, food prep, and health and safety regulations. Ability to operate kitchen equipment and utensils. Self-motivated person who can anticipate the needs of staff and guests. Ability to work without direct supervision. Ability to handle multiple projects and issues at the same time and yet maintain a positive attitude. Ability to recognize potentially unsafe situations and respond appropriately and quickly. Ability to maintain records of activities and operations within scope of position. Ability to work weekends and evenings, as required. Maintain confidentiality and appropriate personal and professional boundaries. Ability to meet qualifications of diocesan safe environment policies and successfully pass a criminal background check. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities include but not limited to: Plan and prepare meals for large groups of campers. Ensure food safety and follow health department regulations. Maintain meal records. Adapt menus to dietary restrictions. Manage food inventory and order supplies. Organize and maintain kitchen supplies. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen. Perform other cleaning and service duties. Help maintain the campground and facilities. Perform minor repairs around camp on buildings and equipment. Inspect facilities for safety hazards. Basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work (depending on skills). Other Responsibilities : Follow a camp schedule with the ability to adjust as necessary due to cancelations, new reservations, etc. Properly store kitchen and cleaning supplies and equipment. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Communicate with supervisor any issues with kitchen and/or maintenance. QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Previous cooking and/or maintenance experience preferred. Any experience that demonstrates hard work, respect for safety regulations, and attention to detail. Essential Physical Abilities: Ability to perform essential duties without endangering self or other employees. Motor skills needed to operate office, kitchen and outdoor equipment and vehicle. Sufficient personal mobility, agility, strength, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate kitchen, cleaning and maintenance equipment for an extended period of time, to reach, stoop, bend, and stretch, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a camp environment. Detects objects to identify proximity, depth and/or color and ability to comprehend and/or perform duties prescribed. Converse with others to express oneself and/or exchange information.
