Position Overview
The Assistant Director of Engineering supports the Director of Engineering in overseeing all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and structural systems throughout the resort. This role ensures facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements while maintaining exceptional guest and team member experiences. Supervise installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of building systems and equipment Assign and verify completion of routine maintenance across the property Inspect work quality and ensure productivity and performance standards are met Maintain safe and efficient operation of utilities including electrical, HVAC, gas, and water systems Coordinate work performed by internal staff and outside contractors Leadership & Administration
Support hiring, training, coaching, and performance management of engineering team members Act as Director of Engineering in their absence Assist with departmental planning, scheduling, and special projects Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork Compliance & Vendor Management
Coordinate inspections and maintain required permits and licenses Liaise with local officials and regulatory agencies Partner with vendors to evaluate new technologies and operational improvements Negotiate contracts with external contractors and service providers Financial & Planning Support
Assist in managing departmental budgets and purchasing Maintain inventory of parts, tools, and maintenance supplies Analyze utility consumption and support energy conservation initiatives Education & Experience
Engineering degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience 5+ years of experience in facilities or engineering operations within large or complex buildings (hospitality experience preferred) Strong background in building maintenance, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical operations Technical Knowledge
Knowledge of:
Electrical and mechanical systems HVAC and building automation systems Fire alarm and sprinkler systems Commercial kitchen equipment Construction and facility maintenance practices
Experience with Microsoft Office and engineering-related software preferred Familiarity with low-voltage systems and networking infrastructure is a plus Ability to analyze energy usage and implement conservation programs Certifications
HVAC Universal Refrigeration Certification Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Electrical, Refrigeration, Fire Safety, or General Contractor licensing (preferred)
