Position Summary The Code & SW Intern will be responsible for providing clerical support to the Code & SW Department. This is a part‑time position with an anticipated start date of May 1, 2026. The role will include work during the summer of 2026 and continue through the 2026–2027 school year.

Interns are expected to work approximately 20 hours per week, scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. During school breaks, interns may work up to 40 hours per week. The position may also require attendance at one evening Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) meeting, typically held on the second Tuesday of each month.

The successful candidate should expect to gain experience working with a governmental office at the municipal level, providing them with knowledge and insight of the daily activities of Code Enforcement. Interns will also learn the crucial citizen‑focused mindset necessary for future careers in government.

This position is covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Essential Functions

Greet visitors and callers by answering or referring inquiries

Operate the city telephone, email, and web‑based permitting program

Keep a safe and clean reception area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations

Permit application intake / customer payments

Fulfill public requests in a timely manner

Special projects (e.g., working out of the office, taking photos citywide)

Assume other responsibilities and perform related duties as needed
