Job Description Recruiting and Social Media Intern

Join the Chesapeake Police Department and gain hands‑on experience in recruiting, marketing, and social media outreach. As a Recruiting and Social Media Intern, you will assist the department’s recruiter with outreach efforts, help create social media content, and support administrative tasks within the Background Investigations Unit.

What You’ll Do:

Assist the department recruiter at recruiting events and outreach activities.

Design advertisements and social media posts for platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

Assist with filming or photographing department personnel during training, events, or daily duties for recruitment content.

Follow up with potential applicants through phone calls and email communication.

Assist detectives with compiling required documentation for applicants.

Ensure applicant information is accurately maintained in tracking spreadsheets.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Interest in social media and digital content creation

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism

Students participating in the Internship Program will be responsible for the following:

Providing their own transportation to and from work.

Arriving at the work site at the time designated by the worksite supervisor.

Performing the tasks assigned by the vocational instructor/coordinator and the worksite supervisor in an efficient manner.

Demonstrating honesty, punctuality, courtesy, a cooperative attitude, appropriate dress, and a willingness to learn.

Conforming to the guidelines of the internship worksite.

Preferred Qualifications

Pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.

Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional and confidential environment.

The ideal candidate is a junior, senior, or graduate student who is enrolled in an accredited college or university, or recently graduated within one year of graduation.
