Position Overview The Commercial Lines Manager provides leadership, operational oversight, and strategic
direction for the Commercial Lines team at Avery Insurance. This role focuses on improving
departmental processes, supporting client retention and growth, and ensuring the team
consistently delivers a high level of service to our commercial clients. The position also
maintains a portfolio of key commercial accounts and collaborates closely with the Director
of Strategy & Engagement and carrier partners to strengthen relationships and expand
Key Responsibilities
Lead and mentor Risk Specialists to support professional growth and performance.
Conduct 1x1s, annual performance reviews, and ongoing development conversations.
Interview, onboard, and train new Commercial Lines team members.
Ensure agency expectations, policies, and industry regulations are consistently followed.
Operational Management
Assist with developing and implementing processes and procedures that improve department efficiency.
Lead and organize department meetings.
Drive strategic initiatives designed to support growth within the Commercial Lines department.
Audit files for best practices and provide coaching where needed to maintain compliance.
Maintain a book of key commercial accounts.
Identify opportunities to maximize growth within the existing client base.
Develop strategies that strengthen client retention and long-term relationships.
Work in conjunction with the Director of Strategy & Engagement to maintain and develop carrier partnerships, including onboarding new carrier appointments.
Monitor industry trends and competitive developments and share insights with the team.
Administration & Reporting
Work closely with the accounting team to ensure accounts receivable remain current.
Maintain departmental policies, procedures, and growth initiatives.
Oversee schedules, PTO approvals, and continuing education for the Commercial Lines team.
Qualifications Education & Licensing
Active Property & Casualty Insurance License required.
College degree or equivalent professional experience.
Skills & Experience
Advanced knowledge of the commercial insurance industry with at least 7 years’ experience.
Strong leadership, mentoring, and team development abilities. Prior management experience preferred.
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Excellent communication and client service skills.
Demonstrated problem-solving ability and proactive mindset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Experience with AMS360 preferred.
Ability to work with confidential information with discretion.
Additional Requirements
Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
Ability to complete required agency training.
Work Arrangement This position offers a hybrid work arrangement with time split between remote work and
in-office collaboration at Avery Insurance’s Wolfeboro or Portsmouth, New Hampshire
offices.
