
Sports Director Application

The Sports Director is responsible for the development, coordination, and administration of all Helena Family YMCA sports programs. This role includes program planning, staff and volunteer supervision, scheduling, registration management, community engagement, and program evaluation. The Sports Director ensures all sports programs are high quality, mission driven, and align with the YMCA’s commitment to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This role requires regular evening and weekend availability to support practices, games, and special events. This position offers significant opportunities for growth as our sports programs expand. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Plan, implement, and evaluate all YMCA sports programs, including youth sports leagues, clinics, and recreational activities. Oversee and manage seasonal and year‑round sports program schedules, including practices, games, and special events. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise part‑time coaches, referees, and program staff. Develop and manage budgets for sports programs. Ensure all programs comply with YMCA policies, safety standards, and applicable regulations. Maintain positive communication with parents, participants, volunteers, and staff; address and resolve concerns or complaints in a timely and professional manner. Monitor registration, attendance, and feedback to assess program effectiveness and implement improvements. Collaborate with the Marketing team to promote sports programs through social media, flyers, and community outreach. Coordinate with facilities staff to ensure gyms, fields, and program areas are organized, safe, and functional. Represent the YMCA in community partnerships, youth sports committees, and local collaborations. Build a strong volunteer base through recruitment, training, and engagement efforts. Maintain program equipment and manage supply inventory. · Work evenings and weekends as required to ensure successful delivery of sports programs. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in youth sports, coaching, program coordination, or recreation management. Strong leadership and organizational skills. Ability to work evenings and weekends during sports seasons. Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and the ability to learn YMCA CRM systems. Strong communication and customer‑service skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience supervising staff or volunteers in a youth sports setting. CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain). Background in coaching, officiating, or sport‑specific training. Experience in scheduling leagues, referees, and facilities. Experience working within a YMCA or similar nonprofit environment.
