Position Summary
Assistant Director of the Office of Accessibility Resources & Services (OARS) reports to the Director of OARS and serves within the Division of Student Affairs. The position is essential for identifying barriers and providing supports to students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with disability legislation, and promoting equitable access to education. The AD consults with students, faculty, staff, families, and community agencies, has extensive knowledge of reasonable and post‑secondary accommodations and accessible technology, and translates federal regulations (Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, ADA, ADA Amendments Act of 2008) for a lay audience. The administrator must demonstrate strong interpersonal and presentation skills, build collaborative partnerships, and balance multiple competing issues. Depending on office needs, the AD may serve as the primary liaison for housing, accessible technology, accommodated testing, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate degree in a related field, or equivalent experience demonstrated through independent educational or instructional activities in student support functions.
Will accept a relevant undergraduate degree with substitution qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
Three or more years of experience in higher‑education disability services.
Working knowledge of the ADAAA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Familiarity with accessible technology for disabled students.
Ability to work independently and take appropriate initiative.
