Primary Job Function We are seeking a visionary and collaborative
Director of Special Education
to serve as a thoughtful leader for our district. In this role, the director will do more than manage compliance; he/she will create a culture of innovation, modeling leadership that ensures every child with special needs has the environment and resources necessary to thrive. The ideal candidate is a "design thinker" who can bridge the gap between traditional programming and cutting-edge educational research, ensuring UCSD#1 remains at the center of state-wide innovation.
Primary Responsibilities
Culture & Innovation:
Champion a culture of inclusive education. Work across the organization to identify challenges and co-design creative solutions with teachers, parents, and state agencies.
Strategic Leadership:
Direct all operations for the Special Education Department, including the planning and implementation of rigorous, technological, and research-based programming.
Compliance & Advocacy:
Ensure all programs meet state and federal IDEA laws while acting as a primary liaison for conflict resolution and mandated reporting.
Accountability for Results:
Integrate community services into our delivery models, conduct needs assessments, and use data-driven insights to improve student outcomes.
Resource Management:
Lead the recruitment and professional development of department personnel. Manage federal and state grants, preliminary budgets, and financial data to ensure maximum impact for our students.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree with an emphasis in Special Education preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience working directly in the field of Special Education.
Licensure:
Certified through Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Visionary Leadership:
Ability to conceptualize organizational patterns that best serve the district's instructional goals.
Technical Expertise:
Deep knowledge of Special Education trends, IDEA Rules & Regulations, assessment methods, and federal/state accreditation standards.
Collaborative Spirit:
Skilled in consensus‑building, conflict resolution, and promoting high staff morale.
Communication:
Exceptional verbal and written skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations for diverse audiences.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others and navigate various school environments.
