Position Overview Gibson Island Club is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our agronomy team at one of Maryland’s most distinctive private clubs. This hands‑on leadership position offers broad responsibility across multiple facilities, meaningful involvement in capital projects, and direct exposure to a comprehensive restoration of the historic C.B. Macdonald and Seth Raynor golf course in collaboration with architect Lester George. Bentgrass greens with warm‑season tees, approaches, fairways, and roughs
Croquet facilities with planned construction of a new full‑size court

Clubhouse lawn and pool complex with planned renovation
“The Point” private beach facility maintained by the grounds team
The agronomy department manages a diverse property footprint extending beyond traditional golf course maintenance.
Golf Course Restoration The Club is currently in the planning phase of a comprehensive restoration with anticipated construction beginning in 2027–2028. The project includes full bunker reconstruction, tee and fairway restoration, installation of a new irrigation system, and complete greens reconstruction. The work is being developed in collaboration with golf course architect Lester George and will restore architectural features consistent with the original Macdonald/Raynor design intent while highlighting several classic design elements associated with their work. The Assistant Superintendent will gain direct exposure to the planning and execution of this full‑scale project.

Brand‑new maintenance facility under construction, anticipated completion late summer 2026
Planned full renovation of racquets facilities
Construction of new full‑size croquet court
Clubhouse lawn and pool complex renovation
Position Responsibilities
Participate in planning and execution of daily maintenance operations
Develop, lead, and mentor crew members
Chemical applications and record keeping
Irrigation monitoring and water management
Equipment operation and quality control
Assist in budgeting, inventory, and agronomic planning
Support member events, tournaments, and capital projects
Professional Environment The agronomy team operates in a collaborative, detail‑driven environment focused on continual improvement. Qualifications
Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred
Professional experience in golf course maintenance with increasing responsibility
Maryland pesticide license (or ability to obtain)
Strong communication and leadership skills
High standards for course conditioning and presentation
Experience managing bentgrass greens preferred
Compensation & Benefits
Salary $65,000-$75000, commensurate with experience
