Senior Sports Producer
CBS Los Angeles/KCAL News, the nation’s largest duopoly & part of CBS Owned & Operated stations in Los Angeles, is seeking a strategic, multi-skilled Sr. Sports Producer for Sports Central to help cover a wide variety of sports in over 6 hours of sports content weekly. From here in Los Angeles to events across the world, we try to put a special focus on our local teams and activities in professional, college, high school & more. To tell these stories, we need a staff with a passion for all sports, especially involving our LA-based teams and schools. The ideal candidate for this position would have worked as a line producer, feature producer & field producer, having produced half hour and hour specials.
Key Responsibilities
Gracefully collaborate with a wide range of in‑house production staff to build compelling content
Generate story ideas and participate in planning meetings with Sports Executive Producer
Proofread & write pertinent sports content, including, but not limited to, leads, highlights, teases, VO copy, packages & obituaries
Quality control edited highlights, teases, VOs, SOTs & long‑form packages
Proof & design graphics to visually enhance the storytelling process, including, but not limited to, lower 3rds, full screens & monitors
Implement engaging production techniques to manage and elevate the quality & impact of our sportscasts
Generate compelling story/feature ideas, especially in the context of community impact
Mandatory Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of sports across all platforms, including, but not limited to all local pro sports franchises (Lakers, Dodgers, Chargers, etc.)
Extensive editing experience (Edius used here at CBS‑LA)
Proficiency in the control room, with strong communication skills and ability to navigate breaking news
Experience creating and populating sports rundowns (iNews used here at CBS‑LA)
Available to work weekends and holidays
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of prior writing/producing experience in sports/news environment
5+ years of experience in sports television, preferably in a Top 20 market
Skill in posting/finding sports content on social media/digital
Experience with building graphics (part of daily responsibility)
Experience with emerging media techniques and equipment in a newsroom setting
Education Requirement College Degree required (or equivalent experience), preferably in Journalism or Communications
Hiring Salary Range $125,000.00 - $135,000.00
