Senior Sports Producer
CBS Los Angeles/KCAL News is seeking a strategic, multi-skilled Sr. Sports Producer for Sports Central to oversee the production of over 6 hours of sports content weekly, covering local teams and events worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with in‑house production staff to build compelling content.
Generate story ideas and participate in planning meetings with the Sports Executive Producer.
Proofread and write sports content, including leads, highlights, teases, VO copy, packages and obituaries.
Perform quality control on edited highlights, teases, VOs, SOTs and long‑form packages.
Proof and design graphics such as lower 3rds, full screens and monitors to enhance storytelling.
Implement engaging production techniques to elevate the quality and impact of sportscasts.
Generate compelling story/feature ideas, especially in the context of community impact.
Mandatory Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of sports across all platforms, including local pro teams (Lakers, Dodgers, Chargers, etc.).
Extensive editing experience (Edius used at CBS‑LA).
Proficiency in the control room with strong communication skills and ability to navigate breaking news.
Experience creating and populating sports rundowns (iNews used at CBS‑LA).
Available to work weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of prior writing/producing experience in a sports
ews environment.
5+ years of experience in sports television, preferably in a Top 20 market.
Skill in posting or searching for sports content on social media/digital platforms.
Experience building graphics as part of daily responsibilities.
Experience with emerging media techniques and equipment in a newsroom setting.
Education Requirement College degree required (or equivalent experience), preferably in Journalism or Communications.
Hiring Salary Range $125,000.00 – $135,000.00 (NY, CA, CO, WA, and other geographies).
