
Senior Real Estate Appraiser

Position Summary
Prince George County is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Real Estate Appraiser. This position will be responsible for conducting field data collection and appraisal work; analyzing market data; developing appraisal procedures and schedules; preparing and maintaining computerized records and files; assisting the public with real estate appraisal questions. The incumbent will also be responsible for researching appeals, reviewing records, contacting owners, visiting property and updating records. Additional responsibilities will include checking assessments and sales and adjusting values as needed, collecting data relative to land valuations and applying such data in appraising specific parcels of land and maintaining network databases and various software programs including VISION/CAMA, a variety of Access databases and GIS. The position will serve as the Real Estate Assessor's Office Database Administrator.
Qualifications Thorough knowledge of the practices of real estate appraising for assessment purposes; thorough knowledge of building and land values; thorough knowledge of the State laws, charter provisions and County ordinances relating to real property assessing; ability to analyze factors which tend to influence the value of property and to exercise judgment in the determination of property values; ability to write clear and concise reports; ability to deal effectively with the general public and associates.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in real estate, math, economics or related field and extensive experience which has provided an understanding of appraisal principles, theories, methods and techniques.
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Certified residential appraisal license and IAAO Assessment Administration Specialist is preferred.
