Controller – Institutional Real Estate Funds
SNI Financial, Dallas, TX, United States
I’m partnering with a well-capitalized real estate investment firm backed by
large, sophisticated institutional investors
to recruit a seasoned
Controller . This role sits at the center of fund accounting, investor reporting, and performance analytics for multiple real estate vehicles and separate accounts.
The firm sponsors institutional-quality real estate strategies and works closely with
pension funds, insurance companies, endowments, and investment consultants , which means this role requires someone who is already fluent in
institutional LP reporting expectations , governance standards, and best-in-class fund accounting practices.
This is a high-visibility role with meaningful ownership and direct exposure to senior leadership.
What This Role Is Really About This is
not
a generalist real estate accounting role.
The ideal candidate comes from a
real estate fund platform with large institutional investors , understands how those investors think, and has operated in environments where
precision, consistency, and institutional credibility
are non-negotiable.
You’ll be responsible for ensuring that financial reporting, performance metrics, and capital activity are delivered at an institutional standard.
Key Responsibilities Institutional Fund Accounting & Reporting
Oversee accounting and reporting for real estate investment funds and separate accounts with
institutional LPs
Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with
U.S. GAAP and NCREIF PREA Reporting Standards (NPRS)
Manage NAV calculations, fund consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and complex journal entries
Oversee capital activity including contributions, distributions, waterfalls, and preferred returns
Investor & Performance Reporting
Produce institutional-grade reporting packages used by
pension funds, consultants, and investment committees
Ensure accuracy and consistency of performance metrics (IRR, MOIC, income returns, appreciation returns)
Partner with asset management and investor relations on performance explanations and variance analysis
Oversight & External Relationships
Manage external audits and tax providers in an institutional LP environment
Maintain strong internal controls, policies, and documentation consistent with institutional expectations
Serve as a key accounting and reporting resource to senior leadership
Ideal Background
8+ years of real estate fund accounting experience
Direct experience supporting
large institutional investors
(pensions, endowments, insurance companies, OCIOs)
Strong working knowledge of
NCREIF PREA Reporting Standards
Experience with closed-end funds, open-end funds, or separate accounts
Exposure to institutional reporting timelines, data validation, and audit scrutiny
Experience with real estate fund accounting systems (Yardi, Investran, MRI, or similar)
Big 4 real estate or institutional fund advisory experience is a plus, but
hands-on fund platform experience
is most important.
Why This Opportunity
Institutional-quality platform with sophisticated LP base
Competitive compensation with flexibility for the right profile
Hybrid work model with location flexibility (Dallas preferred)
High level of ownership and influence
Long‑term growth runway as the platform continues to scale
If you are a senior real estate fund accounting professional looking for a
platform‑building opportunity with real growth runway , I’d welcome a discreet conversation.
