
Inside Sales Representative - Discrete

POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Inside Sales Representative, discrete/unplanned, serves as the primary internal contact for assigned non‑VMI customers. This role supports the full sales cycle through account management, data analysis, and cross‑functional coordination. Key responsibilities include sales execution, expediting, quoting, sourcing, and quality assurance to meet customer needs. The position also provides backup to the Business Unit Manager for order corrections, credits, and order releases. Additionally, they assist in training, offer team leadership, and may lead process improvement initiatives and project teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work to meet all established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Meet sales and gross profit percentage targets for assigned books of business
Follow company guidelines to establish selling prices and profit margins
Actively research profitability concerns
Meet objectives related to customer acquisition and activation
Always represent the company professionally and courteously
Maintain a moderate to expert technical understanding of fasteners and industrial hardware
Ensure customer retention through seamless customer support, proactive communication, and order fulfillment troubleshooting
Serve as an escalation point for non‑routine customer solutions and support, providing assistance to the Business Unit Manager in escalated matters
Improve customer experience and provide solutions for one‑time buys, driving efficiency to improve service and profitability
Provide support and mentorship to other inside sales team members, including training opportunities
Manage data entry, quote support, record management, research activities, logistics communication with the warehouse, shipment scheduling, and related processes
Effectively manage all customers’ master data, including shipping conditions, blanket order requirements, contact information, CRM data, invoicing, and order entry details
Proactively drive account management while executing tasks to support the sales process and move opportunities forward
Collaborate professionally with cross‑functional teams to identify and resolve customer issues
Use reporting tools for inventory review and new item additions
Manage customer portals for demand, quote requests, and corrective actions
Maintain and build customer relationships to become trusted consultative advisors
Exercise excellent judgement and decision‑making skills
Strategic thinking, using creative and innovative problem‑solving across diverse situations
Proactively contact customers to assist with upcoming requirements
Learn to read and decipher customer prints and drawings through Wurth training
Provide leadership for recommending and identifying internal process improvements
Respond promptly to requests via all modes of communication (phone, fax, email, chat)
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Bachelor’s Degree Preferred; high school diploma or GED acceptable
Minimum 3‑5 years of customer service, inside sales, or related experience required
Intermediate to advanced experience in Microsoft Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
Advanced Excel skills
Experience with SAP and P21 systems a plus
Ability to read, analyze, and understand customer purchase orders, drawings, and vendor‑supplied reference materials
Experience in sourcing and procuring industrial hardware
Intermediate to advanced technical understanding of fasteners and industrial hardware
Analytical decision‑making skills that impact the customer
Ability to upsell products and services
Ability to provide professional written, computer‑generated, or verbal quotations and recommendations
Clear and concise verbal communication via phone and in person
Excellent judgement and decision‑making skills
Establish credibility, respect, and trust with internal colleagues and external customers
Motivating employees, creating a team environment, and resolving conflict
Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving up to 25 lbs
