
Inside Sales Representative - Discrete

Position Summary
The Senior Inside Sales Representative, discrete/unplanned, serves as the primary internal contact for assigned non‑VMI customers. This role supports the full sales cycle through account management, data analysis, and cross‑functional coordination. Key responsibilities include sales execution, expediting, quoting, sourcing, and quality assurance. The position also provides backup to the Business Unit Manager for order corrections, credits, and order releases. Additionally, they assist in training, offer team leadership, and may lead process improvement initiatives and project teams.
Responsibilities
Work to meet all established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Meet sales and gross profit percentage targets for assigned books of business
Follow company guidelines to establish selling prices and profit margins
Actively research profitability concerns
Meet objectives related to customer acquisition and activation
Always represent the company professionally and courteously
Moderate/Expert technical understanding of fasteners & industrial hardware required
Ensure customer retention through seamless support, proactive communication, and order fulfillment troubleshooting
Serve as an escalation point for non‑routine customer solutions and support and provide support to the Business Unit Manager in escalated matters
Work to improve customer experience and provide solutions for one‑time buys and drive efficiency to improve service & profitability
Provide support and mentorship to other members of the discrete/unplanned Inside Sales team, including training opportunities
Data entry, quote support, record management, research activities, logistics communication with warehouse, shipment scheduling via defined processes
Effective management of all customers’ master data (shipping conditions, blanket order requirements, contact info, CRM data, prior day invoicing, order entry)
Proactively drive account management while executing tasks to support the sales process and move opportunities forward
Collaborate professionally with cross‑functional teams to identify and resolve customer issues
Use established reporting tools for inventory review and new item additions
Manage customer portals for demand, quote requests, and corrective actions
Maintain and build customer relationships to become trusted consultative advisors
Excellent judgement and decision‑making skills
Strategic thinker; use creative and innovative problem solving in many diverse situations
Proactively contact customers to assist with upcoming requirements
Learn to read and decipher customer prints and drawings via Wurth training
Provide leadership in recommending and identifying internal process improvements
Respond timely to requests via all modes of communication (phone, fax, email, chat)
Perform other duties, as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree Preferred; High school diploma/GED acceptable
Minimum 3‑5 years of customer service/inside sales or related experience
Intermediate to Advanced experience in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
Advanced Excel skills
SAP & P21 skills/experience are an advantage
Must be able to read, analyze and understand customer purchase orders, drawings and vendor‑supplied reference material
Experience in sourcing and procuring industrial hardware
Intermediate to Advanced technical understanding of fasteners & industrial hardware
Ability to analyze data to make decisions and impact on the customer
Upsell products and services
Ability to provide professional written or verbal quotations and recommendations
Must be able to verbalize thoughts and information via phone and in person clearly and concisely
Excellent judgement and decision‑making skills
Ability to establish credibility, respect and trust from internal colleagues and external customers
Ability to keep employees motivated, create a team environment and resolve conflict
Must occasionally lift, carry or move up to 25 lbs
