Acceptable Experience and Education- Depending on area assigned Current student preferably in public or business administration or closely related field.

Preferred: Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Multimedia, Advertising or Public Relations

Essential duties:

Create marketing and communications materials including but not limited to fliers, press releases, social media posts, website posts, etc.

Assist with planning details of special events.

Assist in raising awareness of the County’s services and program.

Assist with building a following on all major social media channels using organic and paid advertising.

Develop and execute social media campaigns.

Research, analyze, and suggest new solutions which will help reach our goals.

Other assignments as needed.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including attendance at various events weekends and after hours.

Performs other duties as required by the department:

Conducts special studies, research, and projects at the request of the department.

Establishes and maintains program and project files.

Receives and resolves or refers citizen complaints to the proper authority.

Screens incoming calls and visitors to determine necessity for call or visits.

Screens routine correspondence for the department.

Prepares correspondence and recurring reports.

Reads and reviews outgoing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy plus conformance to general policy.

Takes and transcribes a variety of dictation and correspondence.

Establishes and maintains working relationship with county officials, news media and the general public.

Arranges for conferences or meetings and provides participants with the topics to be discussed background information.

Entrusted with confidential information which pertains to county matters under consideration and personnel involved.

Coordinates participation at meetings, boards, special events, speaking engagements, and participation on different County and community events and committees.

Assists with maintaining department’s appointment calendar.

Keeps and maintains inventory of office equipment and supplies.

Keeps and maintains records of office payroll and time reports.

Performs other duties as required by the department.

Travels within the county, using personal vehicle at personal expense.

This may be an unpaid internship and is only on a voluntary basis.

Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.

Summary of Position The Marketing & Communications Intern with help to execute the County’s communications plan. There is an opportunity to create a portfolio of projects they worked on and can share with future employers. This flexible, unpaid internship will focus on creating a variety of marketing materials and digital content in addition to high-level thinking and strategizing communications plans for various programs.

The Intern performs administrative staff work required to support the activities and operations of the assigned department. Must maintain a professional caliber of attire and decorum at all times.

May include the possibility of virtual work schedule, depending on area of assignment.

Knowledge of: general office practice and business English, operating practices of county government.procedures and methods including computer keyboard operation; English usage, grammar, punctuation and spelling; techniques for effective interpersonal communications.

Skill/Ability to:

quickly learn State laws relating to activities and operations of the department

deal effectively with the public and governmental officials

understand and carry out oral and written instructions precisely

maintain confidentiality of information

establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

read and interpret documents such as rules, and procedure manuals

speak effectively in English

May be required to be bilingual English/Spanish
