Responsibilities
This role is designed to bring strategic planning, clarity, and rigorous measurement across a complex, multi-disciplinary marketing and communications organization. The Director will serve as the division’s leader for performance measurement, strategic planning, and cross-functional execution. This role requires deep understanding of how modern marketing and communications functions operate—including brand experience, digital strategy, social media, media relations, and integrated campaigns—paired with advanced expertise in analytics, planning, and project leadership. Reporting directly to the Vice President of University Relations, the Director will play a central role in ensuring the division’s work is strategically aligned, measurable, and effectively executed in support of Pace University’s institutional priorities.
Position Duties
Serve as the division’s lead for marketing and communications measurement, accountability, and performance reporting. Design and implement measurement frameworks spanning brand, reputation, engagement, and outcomes. Evaluate and deploy best-in-class marketing and communications analytics tools and methodologies.
Translate complex data into clear insights and recommendations for senior leadership and stakeholders. Establish consistent reporting practices that support strategic decision-making.
Lead high-impact, cross-functional marketing and communications initiatives spanning multiple teams and disciplines. Serve as a connector and integrator across functions, helping teams manage interdependencies and shared priorities.
Apply project management best practices to ensure initiatives are well-scoped, governed, and executed. Implement tools and workflows that promote transparency, collaboration, and accountability.
Support operational planning, resource alignment, and continuous process improvement. Lead planning cycles ensuring clear objectives and outcomes are met.
Partner closely with functional leaders to ensure plans reflect how marketing and communications work is executed in practice. Ensure cross-functional initiatives are coordinated, sequenced, and strategically aligned.
Track progress against the annual plan and proactively identify risks, gaps, and opportunities for adjustment.
When appropriate, present insights, progress updates, and recommendations to senior university leaders. Exercise sound judgment, discretion, and executive presence in all interactions.
Partner with division leadership to set clear, measurable goals aligned with institutional priorities. Monitor progress and support leaders in adjusting strategies and execution as needed. Help foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across University Relations.
Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements
At least seven years experience in marketing and communications, with demonstrated understanding of brand, digital, social, media relations, and integrated campaign work.
At least seven years experience in marketing strategy, analytics, planning, or operations.
Demonstrated expertise in marketing and communications, measurement and performance management.
Experience managing or mentoring analytics or strategy staff.
Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives in a matrixed environment.
Strong command of project management methodologies and tools.
Excellent executive communication skills and professional judgment, preferred
Experience in higher education or similarly complex organizations, preferred.
Experience supporting or presenting to boards, trustees, or executive leadership bodies, preferred
Experience owning or managing integrated marketing and communications plans.
