Description/Notes: Primary Purpose: The Executive Director of Special Education leads the District in the development, implementation and monitoring of curriculum, instruction and assessment for students who receive special education services in accordance with federal, state and local laws, policies and procedures. The Executive Director also directs, evaluates and manages the District’s personnel that provide special education services.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Master’s degree
- Valid Texas Special Education certification
- Valid Principal/Mid-management certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to interpret and apply federal, state and local laws as well as policies and procedures pertaining to special education services
- Strong understanding of the individual needs of special needs students
- Ability to communicate with all levels of special needs students and their parents
- Ability to evaluate special education program and personnel effectiveness
- Ability to manage budget and personnel
- Ability to produce, interpret and summarize data
- Ability to coordinate special services across district functions
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- 3-5 years experience in supervising a special education department
