Location: Greater Boston Area
Travel: Approximately 15–20%
Compensation: $130,000 – $150,000 base salary
A leading experiential marketing and event production organization in the Greater Boston area is seeking a Director of Production to lead the strategy, execution, and operational excellence of large-scale live event programs.
This senior leadership role sits at the center of event delivery—bringing together creative vision, production expertise, and team leadership to guide complex, high-impact experiences from early concept development through onsite execution and post-event wrap-up. The Director of Production also plays a key role in shaping the production organization itself, improving processes, mentoring team members, and ensuring teams have the tools and support needed to deliver exceptional work.
This role is ideal for an experienced event production leader who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and enjoys balancing client strategy, operational leadership, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Partner with clients to define the strategic and creative direction of events, ensuring alignment with brand and business objectives
Serve as a senior client-facing leader , guiding conversations, presenting concepts, and building long-term relationships
Contribute to solution design and event strategies that deliver measurable impact
Oversee the full lifecycle of live, in-person events , from concept development through onsite execution and reconciliation
Lead all production elements including A/V, staging, lighting, scenic design, run-of-show development, rehearsals, and onsite operations
Build and manage scopes of work, timelines, budgets, and production schedules
Coordinate multiple project workstreams to ensure alignment with overall event goals
Anticipate risks, develop contingency plans, and ensure seamless execution
Manage vendor relationships, talent and entertainment logistics, and cross-functional production teams
Partner with account teams to ensure accurate post-event reconciliation and financial management
Operational Excellence
Partner with senior leadership to guide production department operations and communication
Evaluate and refine production workflows to improve efficiency and client service
Drive adoption of new tools, technologies, and operational processes
Improve budget management practices and financial tracking systems
Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to strengthen internal team collaboration
Develop thoughtful staffing plans that align team strengths with project needs
Monitor team capacity and workload planning
Lead onboarding, training, and professional development for production staff
Mentor team members and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
Foster a collaborative, supportive, and high-performing team culture
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in live event production , experiential marketing agencies, or similar environments
Proven ability to lead large-scale programs and cross-functional teams
Strong financial management experience including budget development and oversight
Demonstrated success in client leadership, project management, and operational execution
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
Highly organized and comfortable operating in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
Experience supporting executive presentations, event technology, video formats, or multimedia production is a plus
Familiarity with SharePoint, Microsoft O365, and project management tools preferred
