Overview
Executive Director to service the Mid-South Chapter in Memphis, TN. This is an external-facing, community relations position focused on supporting region-led mission capacity building, informing regional leadership of community needs and perceptions, and strengthening relationships across the community by communicating American Red Cross programs and opportunities for involvement. Reports to the Regional Chief Executive Officer and works with volunteers and staff to deliver mission fulfillment in the Region and Chapter as a member of the Region Leadership Team.
Responsibilities
- Face of the Red Cross to maximize presence in the community and expand awareness of Red Cross programs and contributions.
- Develops and manages a portfolio of strategic relationships with local elected officials and community leaders to support regional mission goals, fundraising, volunteer engagement, and disaster cycle activities.
- Lead the chapter in achieving region revenue targets, supporting events and fundraising efforts, and cultivating donor relationships in alignment with regional goals.
- Support achievement of volunteer engagement, blood collection, and community engagement goals by connecting internal stakeholders with external community opportunities.
- Develop and manage the chapter board to mobilize support and resources around the Red Cross mission, ensuring board governance and engagement.
- Develop and lead community volunteer leaders who represent the Red Cross in assigned territories and foster key partnerships.
- Foster teamwork and inclusion to effectively deliver the Red Cross mission and communicate community needs and capacity needs to the regional team and volunteers.
- Serve as a member of networks coordinating with elected officials for disaster responses and be prepared to deploy to disasters as needed.
What You Need to Succeed
Education: Four-year college degree (BS/BA) in Business, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Finance or non-profit administration or equivalent experience required. A Master’s degree in community organization, public or business administration, or non-profit management is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years related experience. Demonstrated ability to exercise good and timely judgment, strong communications and influencing skills, public speaking and writing, and experience in fundraising and building community relationships. Proven ability to influence others and build partnerships.
Management Experience: Influential leadership experience is required.
Other: Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws. Knowledge of Salesforce.
Skills & Abilities: Highly motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively with a strong Executive team.
Travel: Travel within the communities served and region; may travel to meetings and conferences within chapter jurisdiction, state, and Red Cross system. May be required to sit for long periods and drive a vehicle. A current valid driver’s license and good driving record are required.
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to perform essential functions. May require sitting, using hands, talking, reaching, and occasional lifting up to 30 pounds. Work environment is typical office setting with moderate noise.
