Position Overview

The City of Springfield is seeking a visionary Information Systems Director to shape the future of technology for the city. This is more than an IT leadership role; it is an opportunity to influence how a modern municipal organization operates, collaborates, and serves its community.

The Information Systems Director will be a key member of the City’s leadership team, guiding technology strategy, operations, and digital transformation. The leader must possess strong technical expertise and the ability to partner with departments as a trusted service provider and strategic advisor. Success requires strengthening the City’s leadership philosophy centered on processes, relationships, and trust while positioning the organization for the future through thoughtful innovation and modern technology solutions. Springfield is strengthening how technology supports the organization by improving systems, streamlining processes, and delivering innovative solutions for a modern workforce.

Key Goals

  • Position Springfield as a data-driven organization by advancing enterprise data analytics, performance dashboards, and responsible AI applications that improve decision-making and service delivery.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Information Systems Master Plan that aligns technology investments with the City’s strategic priorities and supports long-term operational excellence.
  • Strengthen relationships across departments by treating the Information Systems Department as a trusted service partner and delivering technology solutions that improve productivity and service delivery.
  • Simplify and modernize the City’s technology environment by evaluating existing systems, reducing redundant programs, and improving enterprise integration.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team that embraces innovation, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Challenge the status quo with thoughtful innovation, leveraging emerging technologies and data-driven decision making to position Springfield as a forward-thinking municipal organization.

Qualifications and Requirements

Compensation will be commensurate based on qualifications.

Experience, Education, and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Business or Public Administration or a related discipline.
  • Seven years of progressively responsible IT experience, including managing IT projects and supervisory/management experience (preferably in an IS environment).

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Business or Public Administration.

Licensing/Certification

  • Valid driver's license if operating a vehicle for job duties.
