Job Description: The Director of OTTAVA Software will lead their team in the software design, development, and documentation to build a scalable robotic surgical business impacting millions of patients and expanding the capabilities of physicians globally.

It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™) and Digital Solutions. This director will be a key technical and strategic leader on one of the most exciting programs in J&J and in healthcare in general! The candidate must bring a strong blend of technical ability and people leadership to bear on this critical role. They must also balance depth in software development with a passionate focus on understanding and meeting the needs of clinicians and operating room staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and motivate a global software development team of over 55 managers and individual contributors focused on graphical user interfaces, applications, real-time software, and firmware
Establish team initiatives to achieve program goals and improve functional excellence in areas including data engineering and device software development related to graphical user interfaces, robotics and controls, firmware, and cybersecurity
Demonstrate technical leadership across product software development, ensuring the stability, robustness, and feature set of the OTTAVA software
Define, and communicate, and implement the vision for the mid- to long-term strategic and technical roadmap of the team
Mentor senior managers, managers, and individual contributors
Maintain functional alignment within R&D leadership and partner organizations (Quality, Regulatory, Commercial) to improve process and define feature road maps
Lead in innovation and AI-supported development
Qualifications
Education: A minimum of Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
Experience and Skills:
Required: A minimum of Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience is required
10+ years professional experience in software development, and/or data platforms, or similar, is required
5+ years experience with hands-on technical leadership and people management is required
Demonstrated ability to deliver results on time within constraints by creatively adapting processes and using resources is required
Experience with medical devices from concept to delivery is required
Experience with documentation for medical device and non-medical device software is required
Proficiency in software development for medical devices and IEC 62304 is required
Demonstrated success in partnering and influencing across a matrix environment is required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and partners is required
Ability to travel up to 10%, international and domestic, is required

Experience with software development and/or test for complex electro-mechanical systems

Experience bringing products to market
Previous experience successfully supporting or launching medical device products is preferred

The anticipated base pay range for this position is : Bay Area - $189,000 - $325,450 Additional Description for Pay Transparency: Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees and/or eligible dependents are eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.
