General Definition of Work The Executive Director of Student Support Services, under minimal supervision, performs senior level work with extensive decision-making discretion providing strategic leadership and oversight of districtwide initiatives that focus on student physical, mental, and behavioral health for assigned schools. Position supports student academic achievement through a focus on the needs of the whole-child, and oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive programs in student health, behavioral health, psychology, social work, crisis response, and coordinated school and community wellness. Employee performs advanced and supervisory work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures related to a wide variety of academic programs and activities under the direction of the Associate Superintendent of Student Services. Associate Superintendent of Student Services Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time. Essential Functions

Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned programs/staff in the district Interpret, communicate, and apply policy to guide program implementation and strategic decision-making Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate department goals, strategic priorities, and performance metrics; recommend improvements and innovations Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of targeted strategies to increase high school graduation rates (if assigned to high schools) Develop, implement, and monitor student attendance improvement strategies at the school and district level, aligned with MTSS Tier 1–3 supports to increase student engagement and reduce chronic absenteeism Oversee the development and delivery of high-quality professional learning for student services staff across the district Develop and coordinate a comprehensive training and capacity‑building plan for administrators and non‑counselor support staff on Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), suicide and threat assessments, crisis response, and support for homeless and foster youth Direct districtwide grief counseling initiatives and provide expert consultation to schools during crisis events Coordinate major crisis and violence intervention efforts for the district, serving as a central point of leadership and communication Ensure the effectiveness and continuous improvement of program systems, tools, and processes Lead department meetings and represent the division in internal and external meetings as required. Collaborate with school administrators, community agencies, and counseling staff to address issues related to child abuse, neglect, and student safety Develop, administer, and monitor the department budget to ensure responsible allocation of resources Represent the district on community boards, workgroups, and committees that support child well‑being and educational outcomes Complete state, federal, and local reports accurately and on time Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations Perform related work as assigned or required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Comprehensive in‑depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system policies and school behavioral health Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to school system behavioral health Comprehensive knowledge of staff development practices, procedures, and techniques Comprehensive knowledge on how to utilize appropriate data and information to make decisions for students Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of various learning styles, curriculum development and program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning Skilled in the use of current software to include word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing applications Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations Ability to develop and monitor a budget Ability to direct and evaluate the work of others Ability to communicate effectively Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums Ability to problem‑solve utilizing sound judgment Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement Ability to develop related charts, graphs, reports, and records pertaining to school planning and strategy Ability to conceptualize, initiate, monitor, and evaluate new and/or current programs Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline‑driven, rapidly changing team environment Education and Experience

Master’s degree in school administration, counseling, social work, school psychology, public health, school nursing or related area required Valid NC license in one of the above areas, or ability to obtain, preferred Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as building or district administrator preferred Equivalent combination of experience and education Special Requirements

Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license or ability to provide own transportation Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings Position Type
