Work Schedule This regular, full time administration position will work Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. This position will require occasional extended work hours and travel by car within KCC’s service area, primarily in the Hastings area.

Regular on-campus presence is expected for all KCC employees. Any flexible and/or hybrid work schedules are subject for review, approval, and/or change based on the needs of the College.

Position Summary

The center director is responsible for developing opportunities and leading operations at a regional academic center in accordance with the mission and vision of Kellogg Community College. As a key member of the KCC Communications and Advancement Division, the director is a public representative of the College in various capacities, including at community events and in strengthening organizational relationships. The director is accountable for the delivery of on-site programs, student services and peripheral activities designed to fulfill the objectives of the College, Division, community partners and individual learners. The director must have excellent community engagement skills and working knowledge of the institution’s divisions and primary functions.

Kellogg Community College’s Fehsenfeld Center campus opened in the fall of 1996 and is located on 95 acres just west of downtown Hastings, Michigan.

Physical Demands

The job responsibilities are performed in an office area and presentation venues. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as independent mobility between work areas, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 – 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.

At least five (5+) years of experience in community engagement, public relations and/or customer service.

Experience working in higher education.

Preferred but not Required

Master’s degree, equivalent, or higher from an accredited college or university.

Knowledge of community college operations and marketing principles.

Experience working with community college students in a service-delivery or instructional capacity.

Supervisory experience.

Proposed Salary According to the Kellogg Community College Hay Administrative Compensation program, the 2025-2026 annual salary range for a Director 2 position, $68,443 to $85,552 to start.

Job Duties Essential Function Community Engagement

Description

Strengthen and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, K-12 school districts, employers and economic development agencies for the purpose of raising KCC’s profile and enhancing the institution’s reputation.

Assess community needs and, in alignment with Communications and Advancement Division objectives, advocate for the College by acting as a liaison with community groups, committees, task forces and local government initiatives.

Connect community stakeholders with KCC divisions and departments for recruitment, enrollment, program development, facility usage and staffing purposes.

Maintain awareness of KCC and center-specific branding and advertising at the center and in the community; provide ideas and input to the Marketing and Communications Department to embrace emerging opportunities.

Essential Function Service Delivery

Description

Ensure center staff, including the director, provides timely, efficient and professional service to students, employees, vendors and guests.

Collaborate with KCC divisions and departments to deliver a feasible, appropriate mix of for-credit and non-credit courses at the center and, when applicable, at locations within the surrounding community.

Coordinate with KCC divisions and departments to structure a high-quality schedule of services, including but not limited to admissions, academic advising, registration, testing, financial aid, counseling, tutoring, business functions and public safety.

Lead, supervise, evaluate and develop direct reports (e.g. center assistants) in accordance with KCC’s standards of conduct for all employees and with specific understanding of the Support Staff, Maintenance and Faculty collective bargaining agreements.

Manage assigned cost center in accordance with institutional budget processes and spending limitations.

Essential Function Facility Operations

Description

Monitor basic functions of the facility (driveway/parking conditions, exterior access, internal plumbing, heating/cooling, et al) and alert appropriate KCC departments to ensure safety standards are met.

Understand and navigate matters germane to the physical plant, including computer and science labs, heating and air systems, instructional technology, vendor/lease agreements, security procedures, etc.

File timely work requests and notifications with the appropriate KCC departments – Facilities, Public Safety, Information Research and Technology, et al – to mitigate interruptions and strengthen the integrity of KCC systems.
