Job Overview The Sample Designer/Estimator position is responsible for project quoting, cost estimating, process engineering support/development, quality assurance and R & D. In addition, this position is also involved with creating, revising and maintaining all CAD Drawings and BOM’s throughout the organization. As a member of our team, you would also be accountable for upholding the company safety standards and training employees in our procedures and processes.
Responsibilities
Perform a thorough review of all estimate requests with appropriate Sales and Production personnel to develop accurate specifications for pricing, assembly specifications and procedures.
Prepare detailed cost estimates on new products through coordination with manufacturing time studies and purchasing.
Determine cost effective means of fabrication as well as raw material usage.
Drawings
Generate detailed CAD drawings using TurboCAD, SolidWorks, etc.
Generate Bill of Materials to meet the production criteria.
Communicate specification and assembly procedures to manufacturing personnel for new product layouts/projects.
R&D, Prototyping and Equipment
Lead and/or coordinate the design and fabrication of prototypes.
Work closely with manufacturing and purchasing personnel to evaluate and propose new manufacturing processes and alternate raw material applications for potential cost savings and/or improved quality/safety procedures.
Analyze, evaluate and present information to management concerning production capabilities, manufacturing problems, as well as design and development of new products.
Write process specification for equipment operations and detailed assembly procedures.
Generate CNC programs to support our CNC Router equipment.
Provide technical support for specialty manufacturing equipment and processes, such as , Thermwood CNC router, Tecnema tile saw and layered sample projects.
Safety & Quality
Utilize SDS and other sources to determine requirements for PPE and other safety considerations for new projects/samples.
In concert with the plant manager, guide, instruct and train QA technicians in daily inspection requirements.
Manage and track First Piece Sign Off’s (FPSO’s) needs.
Confer with QA technicians and manufacturing personnel to rectify quality issues.
Create and uphold standards for new products to maintain quality and production efficiency.
Prepare corrective action reports and define procedures for internal/external quality discrepancies; report findings and recommendations to VP of Manufacturing, Engineering-Safety Manager and Plant Manager.
Travel as needed to Sampco branches in Georgia, Texas, Indiana, Pennsylvania and/or to customers.
