The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is offering an excellent career opportunity for qualified individuals interested in the Public Health Nutritionist position. There are currently two (2) vacancies in the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program located in San Pablo and Pittsburg, CA. You may occasionally be required to travel to various locations in Contra Costa County.

Public Health Nutritionists are responsible for planning, directing, and carrying out the nutrition education program and providing nutrition services to the public. WIC serves pregnant women, women who have recently been pregnant, infants, and children up to their fifth birthday. WIC's mission is to provide all women, infants, and children with healthy food, and the knowledge and opportunity to make healthy choices in an atmosphere of dignity and respect, thus enhancing the potential for all Californians to enjoy a higher quality of life.

Qualifications and Requirements

A clear communicator.

Provide individual and group counseling and nutrition education in writing and verbally to clients.

Knowledgeable.

Provide nutrition education and breastfeeding support to clients.

A team player.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.

Adaptable.

Adapt to changing priorities and a fast‑paced environment.

One (1) year of full‑time (or equivalent) experience performing community‑based nutrition work.

Possession of a Master’s Degree in nutrition, public health nutrition, or a closely related field may substitute one (1) year of experience.

Licensed California motor vehicle operator. Out‑of‑state license accepted during application.

Valid Certificate as a Registered Dietitian issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Eligible list may remain in effect for six (6) months.

Key Responsibilities

Providing individual and group counseling, and nutrition education.

Developing menu items to be prepared by subcontractors.

Conducting café site visits to ensure compliance.

Conducting client surveys and other data tools to ensure client needs are being met.

Supporting staff and community health professionals with nutrition and health information and referrals.

Following federal, state, and county policies and procedures.
