Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 5 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning Sciences, Educational Technology, Public Health, Higher Education, or closely related field.
Five (5)+ years professional experience designing, building, and supporting online courses in a modern LMS (preferably D2L Brightspace/eLC).
Demonstrated expertise in backward design, outcomes-assessment alignment, rubrics, accessibility/UDL.
Foundational experience with SoTL or systematic course-level assessment (e.g., data collection/analysis, action research, or program evaluation in teaching/learning contexts).
Advanced eLC/D2L proficiency (Question Library at scale, HTML content templates, Release Conditions, Groups, Grade Schemes).
Position Summary The Lead Instructional Designer serves as the main consultative expert on teaching and learning in eLC (D2L Brightspace) for the College of Public Health. The role partners with faculty from course concept to delivery; ensures accessibility and quality; and contributes to the science of teaching and learning (SoTL) efforts focused on online/public-health pedagogy.

Duties/Responsibilities Instructional Design & Development
Lead design/re-design of online courses using backward design, alignment of outcomes/assessments, active learning, and UDL.
Build/QA eLC courses; develop templates, rubrics, media; ensure WCAG/Section 508 compliance.
Percentage of time: 50
Faculty Consultation & eLC Support
Provide 1:1 consults, office hours, and micro-workshops on eLC (Gradebook, Quizzes/Question Library, Rubrics, Release Conditions, Intelligent Agents, Groups), assessment strategy, and student engagement.
Percentage of time: 25
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Assist with internal course reviews, ADA/FERPA best practices, and academic integrity solutions (Respondus LockDown Browser, Turnitin).
Percentage of time: 10
Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL)
Design and conduct SoTL projects on online learning within public health
Review IRB submissions when required
Analyze learning analytics and assessment data
Disseminate findings via presentations, reports, or peer-reviewed outlets
Translate results into practical improvements for courses and faculty development.
Percentage of time: 5
Data, Analytics & Continuous Improvement
Use eLC analytics and student/faculty feedback to inform iterative improvements
Contribute brief-term/annual impact reports.
Percentage of time: 5
Service & Collaboration
Liaise with central teaching/IT units; contribute to assessment/accreditation deliverables (e.g., CEPH mapping)
Serve on relevant college- or university-wide committees.
