Mon — Fri, 9:00am — 5:00pm

Responsibilities

Supervise the activities of staff engaged in graphic design and reproduction of materials for the Chicago Public Library.

Review incoming design and print requests, meet with staff to clarify needs and set priorities.

Lead design and production of flyers, posters, brochures, signage, digital graphics and campaign materials.

Serve as lead designer on major marketing efforts, guiding projects from concept through final production.

Supervise and support graphic designers and print staff, assigning work, providing feedback, and approving final files.

Ensure all materials meet library and City standards before printing or distribution.

Oversee daily print operations, including scheduling jobs, managing equipment, monitoring inventory and supplies, and ensuring quality control.

Coordinate photographers for special events and maintain organized archives of design files and printed materials.

Manage the division’s budget and stay current on design tools, printing technology, and industry trends to keep the team efficient and up to date.

Provide hands‑on leadership that blends creative direction, print production oversight, and team management.

Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

Nine (9) years of work experience in graphic design or commercial artwork, with one (1) year in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position.

Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate’s degree in Graphic Arts or a directly related field, plus seven (7) years of work experience in graphic design or commercial artwork, with one (1) year supervisory.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Arts or a directly related field, plus five (5) years of work experience in graphic design or commercial artwork, with one (1) year supervisory.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree or higher in Graphic Arts or a directly related field, plus four (4) years of work experience in graphic design or commercial artwork, with one (1) year supervisory.

Selection Criteria An interview will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test. Candidates with the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.
