Academic Advising Director

POSITION DETAILS City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of Director of Academic Advising for Academic Affairs.

CUNY School of Law is a national leader in progressive legal education with a dual mission of training a diverse group of students to become excellent public interest attorneys, and providing access to the profession for members of historically underrepresented communities. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, the Director Academic Advising will develop, implement, and assess programs and services to produce high-quality results and meet strategic academic goals. The Director will also coordinate activities among different units, and with areas outside the College, and may oversee staff, budget, operations, and facilities.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Director of Academic Advising will be responsible for the following duties:

Oversees the academic advising process, and serves as the first contact for students and faculty regarding academic advising and counseling.

Manages Dual Degree programs, Pro-bono Scholars, Columbia MOU, and other dual degree programs.

Coordinates the character and fitness and bar admission processes, including disseminating information to students and being their initial point of contact.

Manages and coordinates 3-by-3 programs with Queens College and other programs; create and implement programing for retention of re-start students and addresses recurring issues for students.

Assists the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs with the administration of the Law School's academic program, completion of work in the Academic Affairs Office, and related duties in support of the achievement of its short- and long-term operational goals.

Serves on several faculty governance committees, including the Curriculum Committee and Academic Standing Committee.

This position may require evening and weekend work.

This position is subject to the same in-person requirements as other staff in the Law School. This entails a minimum of 80% in-person presence on-campus and may be higher than 80% based on departmental and divisional needs.

QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate and Law School counseling experience strongly preferred. Proven record of progressive administrative experience that includes academic affairs or comparable position.

Proven record of accomplishment working in multi-racial and multicultural institutions. In-depth knowledge of traditional and innovative law school curricula and teaching methods including clinical teaching, as well as thorough familiarity with law school admissions issues, academic support programs, and bar exam preparation issues.

Experience in academic support and/or bar preparation instruction preferred. Other areas for consideration include administration, teaching or extensive student counseling experience.

Excellent organizational, communication (oral and written), facilitation, collaborative and interpersonal skills.

Self-initiating and able to manage multiple tasks and projects.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW Directs development and operations of academic counseling services.

Designs, implements and monitors a comprehensive academic advisement model and protocol

Oversees outcomes assessment and creates strategic plan to further enhance academic advisement services

Manages an academic advisement center to ensure consistent and reliable information is provided to students

Cultivates and maintains strategic partnerships; serves as primary liaison to faculty and administrators regarding academic counseling services; and works with academic departments to develop faculty advisement components

Administers all compliance and data integrity activities of academic counseling in accordance with University standards

Advises College administration on policy interpretation and execution regarding University academic counseling standards and best practices

Develops and manages unit budget

Manages professional and clerical staffPerforms related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS $118,070 - $131,440. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
