The Director of Library Services administrates the Central Oregon Community College (COCC) Libraries and is also responsible for the oversight of COCC’s Tutoring & Testing (T&T) department. The Director promotes student-centered services and resources; inter-departmental and campus collaboration; and alignment with the College’s broader vision, mission and strategic goals.

As the leader of departmental staff teams, the director provides active and dynamic leadership in departmental strategic planning, staff supervision and evaluation, budget administration, and institutional representation in consortia and professional organizations. The Director is ultimately responsible for library collections (print, electronic, and archives); credit and non-credit library instruction; library systems and technology; the library’s gallery exhibit program; testing and tutoring services; and departmental outreach to all COCC campuses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Central Oregon Community College is seeking a collaborative, student-centered Director of Library Services to lead our Libraries and provide oversight for Tutoring & Testing (T&T) across multiple campuses. This role is ideal for a thoughtful leader who values access, equity, innovation, and connection—both on campus and in the broader community.

As Director, you’ll guide strategic planning, operations, and outreach for library services while supporting tutoring and testing programs that help students thrive. You’ll work closely with faculty, staff, IT, and college leadership to ensure our services, collections, technology, and spaces meet the evolving needs of students and educators.

You will lead the library’s strategic planning, assessment, budgeting, and accreditation reporting

You will provide administrative oversight and advocacy for Tutoring & Testing services

You will support high-quality library collections, systems, technology, and facilities

You will supervise and mentor faculty and staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture

You will champion information literacy, instructional support, and student access across all COCC campuses

You will represent COCC in regional and statewide library consortia and professional organizations

You will support equity-centered practices, community engagement, and open educational resources

Ability to provide a positive, team‑based approach to leadership and problem‑solving for diverse teams of employees.

Demonstrated ability to manage departmental budgets, fiscal forecasting, and library resources.

Ability to effectively communicate departmental goals, gather data, and generate assessment reports.

Must have knowledge of issues and trends in higher education, especially those related to library resources and services.

Ability to work cooperatively with, and contribute to, a diverse workplace through ideas or experience, and develop mutually beneficial partnerships.

Strong commitment to working with the College community to promote student success.

Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.

Ergonomic Requirements All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Regular office hours are established between 8 am–5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.

Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.

Education

Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS or MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution.

Experience

Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience, including leadership roles, in a library;

Two (2) years administrative experience in an academic setting; and

Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a leadership role.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience as a library director or dean in an academic setting.

Teaching experience as a full-time library faculty member in an accredited college.

Administrative experience with both Library and also Tutoring or Testing.
