The Marketing & Website Intern will work closely with the Fairgrounds Manager to support key marketing and website initiatives. This role focuses on maintaining the Johnson County Fairgrounds website, managing social media content, assisting with email marketing and newsletters, and supporting event promotions through engaging digital content. Additional responsibilities include basic graphic design using Canva, short‑form video creation with CapCut, and tracking analytics to improve marketing effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Fairgrounds Manager in managing marketing and website updates, including brainstorming, planning, and execution.
Update and maintain the Johnson County Fairgrounds website using WordPress, ensuring accurate and up‑to‑date information.
Create and update content for newsletters, social media, and the website, ensuring relevance, accuracy, and consistent messaging.
Capture high‑quality photos and organic video clips to highlight events, programs, and community activities.
Develop engaging social media posts to promote fairground events, programs, and community stories, while tracking performance to improve future campaigns.
Use Canva to design graphics and visual assets for newsletters, social media posts, and other promotional materials.
Assist with email marketing campaigns by drafting and scheduling newsletters using platforms such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact.
Track and analyze website and social media performance metrics to optimize engagement and visibility.
Support general marketing and communications tasks, including campaign management and content organization.
Assist with event coverage by capturing photos, videos, or providing promotional support to enhance visibility and engagement.
Desired Qualifications
Current college student pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field.
Experience with WordPress for website management (familiarity with Wix or Squarespace is a plus but not required).
Strong writing and communication skills for copywriting, content creation, and digital storytelling.
Familiarity with social media platforms, scheduling tools, and engagement strategies.
Experience with photo and video editing software, such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe Photoshop, or Lightroom.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
Strong organizational skills with an eye for detail.
Additional Information
This is a bring‑your‑own‑device internship – interns will use their own laptop and software as needed.
A Johnson County Fairgrounds email address will be provided, and interns are expected to check it regularly.
Hours will be tracked and submitted to the Fairgrounds Manager for approval one week prior to pay dates.
Internships are not eligible for benefits.
