
Director of Finance

The Director of Finance is a hands‑on finance leader responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial strategy, systems, reporting, and compliance. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role plays a key role in budgeting, forecasting, audit coordination, grant and funding reporting, and financial process improvement.
While prior nonprofit experience is strongly preferred , the organization will also consider candidates from professional services environments who bring strong technical accounting, audit, and compliance experience. This role is onsite and offers room for growth for a senior finance professional ready to step into a Director‑level position.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Strategy
- Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes in partnership with department leaders
- Manage cash flow planning to support financial sustainability
- Act as a strategic financial advisor to executive leadership and finance/board committees
Financial Reporting, Grants & Compliance
- Prepare accurate weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Produce financial reports for grants, foundations, and funding partners
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit and regulatory reporting requirements
- Coordinate audits, including preparation, auditor interaction, and implementation of recommendations
- Maintain financial records in accordance with GAAP and best practices
Accounting Operations
- Oversee daily accounting functions including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and close processes
- Reconcile accounts and ensure accuracy across financial systems
- Manage banking relationships, vendor agreements, and treasury functions
- Oversee and optimize financial systems (e.g., QuickBooks and related tools)
Cross-Functional Leadership & Process Improvement
- Partner with department leaders to monitor budgets and track grant-related expenditures
- Lead finance process improvements and documentation initiatives
- Apply strong critical thinking to identify risks, inconsistencies, or compliance concerns
Operational & Administrative Support
- Maintain financial and compliance-related documentation
- Support onboarding and offboarding processes from a financial perspective
