We care about people, and that includes both our residents and employees!\nA Day in the Life of a Deputy Court Clerk\nAs a Deputy Court Clerk, you spend your day responding to customers regarding legal options to satisfy cases, including fines, trials or hearings, driver's safety, deferred dispositions, warrants, extensions, and posting of bonds. Your work typically involves updating case files in the Court's case management system as contact is made with customers, judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, witnesses and others. Prepare and processes traffic and parking citations filed by the Edinburg Police Department and other agencies. Your job is essential to the city, you monitor cases for compliance, process cases in accordance with legal requirements, and prepare documentation for the judge and prosecutor. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include administrating oaths and prepares complaints, summons and subpoenas. When you aren't assisting others you're running reports, gathering files and information, taking payments, performing customer service related duties, and other duties as required. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DEPUTY COURT CLERK\nAs a Deputy Court Clerk, you spend your day responding to customers regarding legal options to satisfy cases, including fines, trials or hearings, driver's safety, deferred dispositions, warrants, extensions, and posting of bonds. Your work typically involves updating case files in the Court's case management system as contact is made with customers, judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, witnesses and others. Prepare and processes traffic and parking citations filed by the Edinburg Police Department and other agencies. Your job is essential to the city, you monitor cases for compliance, process cases in accordance with legal requirements, and prepare documentation for the judge and prosecutor. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include administrating oaths and prepares complaints, summons and subpoenas. When you aren't assisting others you're running reports, gathering files and information, taking payments, performing customer service related duties, and other duties as required. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with skills in customer service, public relations, and you find genuine enjoyment in what you do!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DEPUTY COURT CLERK

High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency

Preferred: Community college, vocational business, technical or correspondence school certificates are likely sources

Requires one (1) year experience of clerical experience

Preferred: One (1) year of experience in court procedures or in a related field.

Bilingual English/Spanish required

Must be able to type 30 WPM

Must have a current and valid class \"C\" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety

POSITION SUMMARY\nWorkers under the supervision of the Municipal Court Clerk. Arraigns defendants during non-office hours when the Court Clerk or Judge is unavailable. Responsible for signing warrants for officers. Performs duties in compliance with City Code, State Regulations, and departmental policies and directives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES – KNOWLEDGE – SKILLS - ABILITIES

Prepare all forms needed to perform an arraignment.

Arraign defendants who have been arrested.

Must read compliant and tell defendant their rights, sign all forms and documents, have defendant sign all documents and provide information about each of the violations that the defendant may have.

Set court date for the defendant to come in front of the Municipal Court Judge.

Requires the ability to manage distraught and irate defendants.

Perform other work-related duties and projects as assigned by the Municipal Court Clerk.

Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and legally protected information.

Sets a bond amount for defendants to post to be released from custody.

Other duties as assigned.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Strong customer service and communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry systems.

Ability to work independently and accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to type, file or lift office supplies up to 20 pounds.

USE OF TECHNOLOGY & EQUIPMENT

General office equipment is frequently used, including but not limited to computers, laptops, telephone and cell phone, printers, scanners, copiers, and cameras.

CONTACT & SUPERVISION

Position involves frequent internal and external contact, but generally on routine matters such as furnishing or obtaining information.

Reports to the Court Clerk.
