Position Summary The Director of Business Development will lead strategic growth initiatives in the aerospace sector with a focus on turbojet engine programs and Department of Defense (DoD) customers. This role is responsible for developing long-term customer relationships, identifying emerging opportunities, shaping competitive pursuits, and driving capture strategies that support the company’s engine development, sustainment, and modernization portfolios.

The ideal candidate has deep technical and market knowledge of military aerospace systems, at least 10 years of experience supporting DoD programs, and a proven track record of securing major aerospace contracts.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Growth & Market Development

Develop, implement, and manage business development strategies for turbojet engine programs within the U.S. defense aerospace market.

Identify future capability needs aligned with DoD priorities, including propulsion upgrades, next‑generation engines, and sustainment initiatives.

Conduct competitive assessments, market analyses, and long-range opportunity forecasting.

Build and maintain senior-level relationships with key DoD organizations (e.g., USAF, Navy, DARPA, DoD program offices), prime contractors, and industry partners.

Serve as the primary interface for customer discussions related to turbojet engine programs, requirements, and acquisition schedules.

Represent the company at industry conferences, working groups, and government meetings.

Capture Management & Proposal Leadership

Lead end-to-end capture efforts, including shaping requirements, teaming strategy, pricing approaches, and competitive positioning.

Oversee proposal development in coordination with engineering, contracts, finance, and executive leadership.

Ensure technical, financial, and schedule risk assessments are integrated into pursuit strategies.

Internal Collaboration & Leadership

Work closely with engineering teams to align customer requirements with internal R&D and product roadmaps.

Provide executive-level briefings, business cases, and go/no-go recommendations for major acquisition pursuits.

Mentor and guide business development managers and capture teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

in aerospace engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business, or related field (master’s preferred).

10+ years of experience

in business development, program management, or technical leadership supporting DoD aerospace programs.

Proven experience working within aerospace.

Demonstrated success leading major DoD captures, proposals, or contract awards.

Strong understanding of DoD acquisition processes (FAR/DFARS, lifecycle phases, requirements development).

Ability to obtain and maintain a

U.S. security clearance

(Secret)

Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.

Due to the nature of PBS Aerospace’s business as a defense contractor, this position is limited to U.S. citizens, as defined under applicable federal regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

Existing network of government, military, and industry stakeholders.

Direct experience working with USAF or other Service’s interceptor, drone, missile or aircraft development programs.

Background in turbine engine development, sustainment, test operations, or integration.

Strategic thinker with the ability to influence across technical and nontechnical teams.

Highly motivated, self-directed, and comfortable in fast‑paced environments.

Strong business acumen combined with deep technical understanding of propulsion systems.
