Job Summary:
The Retail & Admissions Lead plays a key role in delivering an exceptional guest experience at the Carolina Museum of the Marine. This position serves as the shift lead for front-of-house operations and rotates between managing the admissions desk and museum store. Leads assist with daily operations, support part-time staff and volunteers, and ensure guests are welcomed in a professional, friendly, and informative manner. The ideal candidate has experience in admissions, ticket sales, point-of-sale (POS) transactions, guest relations, and staffing support.
Key Responsibilities Guest Experience
Welcome guests and provide a positive first impression of the museum
Process ticket sales, memberships, and group admissions
Answer guest questions regarding programs, tours, and museum amenities
Retail & Admissions Operations
Ensure accurate, secure, and customer-focused POS transactions for tickets and retail
Process cash and credit card transactions accurately
Assist guests with retail purchases and product inquiries
Maintain organized merchandise displays and restock inventory as needed
Support daily opening and closing procedures in coordination with Retail & Admissions Manager
Leadership & Support
Serve as shift lead when scheduled
Provide guidance to part-time staff and volunteers
Help ensure front desk and store areas remain organized and professional
Assist Retail & Admissions Manager with training new staff members
Communicate operational issues or guest feedback to the Retail & Admissions Manager
General Responsibilities
Maintain a clean and welcoming front-of-house environment
Assist with light merchandising and product displays
Support special events or museum programs as needed
Qualifications
2+ years previous customer service, retail, hospitality, or museum experience (team lead experience preferred)
Comfortable working with POS systems and handling financial transactions
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to multitask during busy visitor periods
Interest in Marine Corps history or military heritage is a plus
Availability
Museum hours: Tuesday–Sunday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Lead shifts typically run 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Weekend availability required
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally
Ability to move throughout the museum store and admissions area
