Job Summary:
The Retail & Admissions Associate supports the daily operation of the museum’s front‑of‑house experience by rotating between the admissions desk and museum store. Associates welcome guests, process ticket and retail transactions, and help ensure visitors have an enjoyable and memorable experience at the Carolina Museum of the Marine. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with the public in a fast-paced and mission‑driven environment.
Key Responsibilities Guest Experience
Greet museum visitors and provide friendly, helpful service
Process admissions tickets and museum memberships
Answer guest questions about exhibits, amenities, and museum policies
Help create a welcoming and engaging environment for visitors
Retail & Admissions Operations
Assist guests with retail purchases in the museum store
Operate the Point‑of‑Sale system for retail transactions
Restock merchandise and maintain organized displays
Assist with product presentation and store appearance
Front‑of‑House Support
Maintain cleanliness and organization of admissions and retail areas
Work collaboratively with Retail & Admissions Manager, leads, staff, and volunteers
Support daily opening and closing procedures
Assist with special events and busy visitor periods
Qualifications
Customer service or retail experience preferred but not required
Friendly, professional, and dependable
Comfortable interacting with a diverse group of visitors
Ability to learn basic POS and admissions systems
Interest in Marine Corps history or the museum’s mission is a plus
Availability We are seeking candidates who are consistently available for
one or both of these shifts , including weekends.
Museum open Tuesday–Sunday
Part‑time shifts are approximately 5 hours and generally fall within one of two windows:
Morning: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Afternoon: 12:30 PM – 5:30 PM
Weekend availability required
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally
