Position Summary The Philanthropy Communications Manager will be a shared position between the Trinity Health Muskegon Office of Philanthropy (0.75) and the Trinity Health Saint Mary's Foundation (0.25). This role ensures that all philanthropy-related communications—including donor acknowledgements, print publications, event and program marketing materials, case statements, campaign fact sheets, website, social media, and press releases—support the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and the growth of each department’s philanthropy activities. The manager also provides project management support for various assignments, programs, and events, ensuring that funds are raised and utilized in accordance with applicable laws, gift‑accounting practices, donor wishes, and ethical standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field such as event planning, public relations, communications, marketing, or advertising.

At least 5–7 years of successful fundraising experience with demonstrated knowledge of donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, and a strong understanding of the role of philanthropy in non‑profit organizations.

Responsibilities 75% of the position is dedicated to the Trinity Health Muskegon Office of Philanthropy

Develop, implement, and lead a donor communications program that strategically targets all levels of giving through multiple media (social media, website, annual donor reports, e‑blasts, fund/endowment reports, event/program invitations, donor newsletters, campaign materials, press releases).

Lead efforts to maximize donor contact and reach by guiding effective proposal writing and identifying strategic public‑relations opportunities to promote gifts and other communications that build brand awareness and inspire philanthropy.

In coordination with local Philanthropy Officers, create innovative programs and projects to thank and steward loyal major and special‑gift donors, including appropriate updates and reports.

Communicate, review, and control all gift acknowledgements, including thank‑you letters and pledge reminders.

Help develop and continually refine and promote a “Case for Giving.”

Build relationships with key constituents such as volunteers, board members, physicians, colleagues, corporate representatives, foundations, and current and prospective donors to provide an effective donor‑centered fundraising approach.

Develop systems and strategies to integrate and manage donor retention effectiveness.

Ensure all philanthropy efforts are communicated, promoted, and scheduled appropriately.

Partner with the Marketing and Communications department and outside vendors to ensure seamless messaging, timing, and execution of communications for all Mercy Health related news and announcements involving the donor community.

Practice extraordinary stewardship to all donors and volunteers, providing exceptional customer service while anticipating and exceeding customers’ needs.

Maintain knowledge of contemporary fundraising trends through continuing education and professional affiliations to ensure professional growth.

25% of the position is dedicated to the Trinity Health Saint Mary’s Foundation

Collaborate with a contracted communications vendor to create and support a 12‑month communication plan.

Collaborate with a contracted communications vendor to write copy for and oversee three issues of the Gift of Health newsletter.

Develop and continually refine the Case for Support copy and messaging.
