Astrix is partnering with our client, a leading and widely recognized food science company and the #1 brand in their category, to hire a Protein Biochemist to join their growing R&D team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with cutting‑edge analytical technologies and collaborate with a team of scientists advancing innovative research and product development initiatives.

The Protein Biochemist will work closely with senior scientists and cross‑functional teams to support protein and enzyme research programs, applying biochemical and analytical techniques to drive discovery and development projects.

12‑Month Contract

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine HPLC operations, including system setup, solvent preparation, sample preparation, run execution, data analysis, calibration checks, and system shutdown.

Maintain and troubleshoot HPLC instrumentation, document all analytical runs per SOPs, and escalate complex issues as needed.

Conduct protein biochemistry experiments, including protein characterization and enzyme activity studies.

Execute protein analysis workflows such as SDS‑PAGE, Western blotting, UV/Vis protein quantification, and buffer preparation.

Perform plate‑based enzyme assays and operate microplate reader instrumentation for kinetic and activity measurements.

Support time‑course enzyme activity studies, including sample preparation, labeling, storage, and data analysis.

Design and execute experiments using scientific methods, analyze results, and recommend next steps under guidance from senior scientists.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to analyze product characteristics and support research and development initiatives.

Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and organized experimental records.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high attention to detail and data quality.

Present experimental results and scientific findings to internal teams through data summaries and presentations.

Follow laboratory safety standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Qualifications – Required

Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific discipline

1–3 years of industry laboratory experience (depending on education level)

Hands‑on experience operating HPLC systems, including method setup, troubleshooting, and data analysis

Strong background in protein biochemistry techniques and enzyme assays

Experience with pipetting, pH measurement, and plate‑based biochemical assays

Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem‑solving skills

Ability to work in a fast‑paced laboratory environment and manage multiple projects

Qualifications – Preferred

Experience with FPLC or other protein purification chromatography techniques

Experience expressing enzymes or working with recombinant proteins

Familiarity with protein purification methods such as ultrafiltration or tangential flow filtration

Experience with chromatography methods such as IEX, HIC, or IMAC

Familiarity with laboratory processes including cell disruption, gel electrophoresis, centrifugation, and Western blotting
